Standard reporting and data analysis in the department with Tableau
Starting point
- Business departments are unable to perform their own standard or ad-hoc reporting and must request them individually from IT
- Any changes or updates to the reports are associated with long waiting times, as they can only be carried out centrally by IT
- The goal is to make reporting more efficient by enabling self-service analytics and relieving the IT department
Procedure
- Selection and implementation of Tableau as a self-service BI tool
- Installation of Tableau Server, considering data governance aspects such as permission structures to maintain data integrity
- Setup of 3 environments: Test, Integration, & Production
- Development of an automatic deployment process for Tableau workbooks via Python & Tableau REST API, including validation by the business department and data stewards
Features/Project outcome
- Release-controlled, automated deployment from development through integration to production
- Unification of self-service BI and data governance processes
- Empowerment of business departments to perform their own data analysis and create reports – including customer training in self-service BI with Tableau
- Relief of the IT department, which continues to ensure data validity and integrity
Customer benefits
- Business departments can quickly and easily implement their own requirements and analyses
- Both standard reporting and exploratory data analysis are independently carried out by the business departments
- Quick data analysis enables immediate conclusions and the initiation of actions
- Time and cost savings for both the business departments and IT
