KPI dashboard for business management

Starting point

  • The client uses different software systems to analyse its key business metrics. This led to time-consuming analyses
  • Outdated and no longer up-to-date presentations of the metrics, along with staggered report results, lead to a lack of transparency in the metric evaluations

Procedure

  • Conducting a workshop with a clear definition of KPIs and a general agreement on the introduction of new notation rules based on IBCS
  • The creation of the new dashboard based on IBM Cognos was carried out using the Scrum method
  • In individual sprints, a part of the dashboard was created and then tested by the department. Change requests were immediately implemented afterwards
  • Some models with predictive approaches are still in the testing phase

Features/Project outcome

  • The new dashboard has been developed based on a clear notation and design concept. User-specific permissions guide each user to 'their' KPI levels
  • The linking (drill-through functions) allow for detailed analyses within each KPI graphic
  • Additionally, further KPI analyses are possible through links to PowerPlay applications

  • New presentation formats in the diagrams lead to quick business understanding. In particular, the integrated variance analyses allow for significant insights with a compact display
  • With the linking to detailed reports and cubes, rapid root cause analysis is possible
  • Thanks to a coordinated design roadmap, extensions of this dashboard or new analyses can be implemented more easily
